JAWCU Is a National non-governmental organization based in Uganda. We believe in equality in dignity, and respect for human rights. Our quest for equality is directed at marginalized groups. JAWCU’s work revolves around promoting social justice and community development by advocating for protection of the vulnerable groups’ rights. We believe that if the vulnerable groups like women, children, youth, the disabled, people living with HIV/AIDS and others are empowered, and made to realize their full potential, they would be an asset to economic development.
Poverty has been recognized as one of the leading causes of violence against women and children, JAWCU’s goal is to foster respect for and observance of human rights with emphasis on achieving equal opportunities for women, children and other marginalized group , through networking, promoting respect for human rights, good governance/transparency and accountability advocating for their empowerment , carrying out research, advocating for access to justice ,health and education, rights awareness so as to improve their living conditions.
We plan to initiate economic empowerment programmes like micro-credit schemes and other income generating ventures. JAWCU envisions a world where all people are free from violence and oppression and where everyone can realize their full potential as human being. To echo the words of Fredrick Douglass, “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, where any one class is made to feel that society is an organised conspiracy to oppress, rob and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe”.
